Student Support Services

Inclusive Education

Students at Hillview State School come from diverse backgrounds, identities and abilities. We are committed to providing an inclusive learning environment where every child can access and fully participate in learning alongside their peers. Our teaching and support teams work together to make reasonable adjustments and provide tailored strategies that meet each student’s individual needs. We believe every child deserves the opportunity to succeed—academically, socially and emotionally.

Student Support Services Team

At Hillview State School, our Student Support Services Team works closely with teachers and families to ensure students have access to the support they need. Referrals are made by classroom teachers, and families are always involved in planning and decision‑making.

Our support team includes:

  • Principal, teachers and teacher aides - planning and delivering quality education to all students
  • Head of Curriculum - supporting teachers to plan and resource learning
  • Speech and Language Pathologist – supporting communication, language and literacy development
  • Psychologist – providing assessment, specialist advice and mental health support
  • Guidance Officer – assisting with wellbeing, behaviour and learning pathways
  • Advisory Visiting Teacher (Behaviour Support Service) – supporting behaviour, engagement and social–emotional skill development
  • Occupational Therapist (OT) – supporting students with fine motor skills, sensory regulation, organisation, independence and participation in everyday school activities
  • Physiotherapist (PT) – assisting students with gross motor development, physical mobility, strength and coordination to support safe and confident participation in school life
  • School Chaplain – providing pastoral care, emotional support and a friendly, trusted presence for students, staff and families, and helping to foster wellbeing and connection within the school community

The team meets regularly to review referrals, discuss student needs and plan appropriate supports. Staff collaborate with and communicate outcomes and next steps with families.

Possible Support Actions May Include:

  • Referral to our Speech and Language Pathologist for assessment or intervention
  • Support from the Advisory Visiting Teacher and development of individual behaviour plans
  • Guidance Officer support for wellbeing, behaviour or learning concerns
  • Assessment and advice from the Psychologist
